October mornings

What a beautiful morning
The sun glints in puddles
And bounces off of windows
So that I have to squint to see

Steam rises from the pavement
Evaporating last night’s downpour
Into the cold morning air
Making me smile and shiver

I pull my scarf tighter
I'm under no illusion
The sun is a cheeky little harlot
Full of promises that can't be kept

And the glints in the puddles
Reflect in my eyes
Show my own little secrets
That I share only with the sun
