Half Full or Half Empty

I've learned so much about myself this year
Felt love, pain, depression
Euphoria,
Fear.

Felt the way love can lift you
Until you’re floating through life
Then how fate can play havoc
Slash those dreams with his knife
Found with shock that true love
Is not always enough
To keep two people strong
And that trouble will shove
Its way in the cracks
Force things apart
Test the strength of your mind
Of your will, of your heart
Though you think you can handle
Whatever life throws
Until it occurs
No one truly knows.

There's no half full or half empty
With a crack in the cup
But once at the bottom
One can only look up

Though the ladder is broken
And the light seems so far
We'll regroup and reform
Redefine what we are
Start the slow but true journey
Hold hands as we climb
Learn from the pain
Heal our hearts over time
And in just a few years
We will look back and see
How this was the making
Of you and of me
For the strength that it built
Though it seemed so bad then
Means whatever comes next

We will not fall again
