Grandad won't talk about the war
Grandad won't talk about the war
Not a word
Not even a flicker given away in his eyes
The subject is closed
And so is his mind
Grandad won't talk about the war
Not a word
He laughs and jokes, perhaps too much
The happiest soul
So one would think
Grandad won't talk about the war
Not a word
Not even for my school project
He just winked and said
You'll work it out
Grandad won't talk about the war
Not a word
Not even for the family tree research
Which in my late twenties
Suddenly seemed important to me
Grandad won't talk about the war
Not a word
Because he finally found peace
The words are gone
But the legacy lives on
